Say It
Speak a transaction in normal language and review the details before sending it to YNAB. Great when typing is the last thing you want to do.
Say it. Scan it. Or tap it. SimpleAdd is built to make everyday YNAB transaction entry feel quick, natural, and easy from your phone.
SimpleAdd keeps the home screen intentionally simple. Choose the quickest entry method for where you are and what you have in front of you.
Speak a transaction in normal language and review the details before sending it to YNAB. Great when typing is the last thing you want to do.
Take a photo of a receipt and let SimpleAdd pull out the transaction details, then use your history to intelligently suggest the likely account and category before you confirm it.
Start with likely payees, accounts, and categories instead of a blank form. Suggestions can improve the more you use SimpleAdd.
The goal isn’t another budgeting system. It’s a focused companion that helps you get the transaction into YNAB and get on with your day.
SimpleAdd uses the patterns behind the way you actually enter transactions—what you choose, what you have used recently, optional location context, and the corrections you make—to surface likely payees, accounts, and categories before you have to go looking for them. When your own history does not provide a strong signal, SimpleAdd can also use AI-assisted merchant and category understanding to help rank likely categories. The more you use it, the more useful those suggestions can become.
SimpleAdd currently works as a full web-based app. Open it on your phone and add it to your home screen for a standalone, app-like experience while future official app releases are developed.
SimpleAdd uses YNAB’s secure connection, so you never type your YNAB password into SimpleAdd. Connection details stay protected on the server, and we only keep the SimpleAdd data needed to make entry faster and suggestions more useful.
We’re inviting a limited number of YNAB users while we refine the experience. Tell us a little about how you use YNAB and where transaction entry tends to get in your way.
Applying does not create an account or sign you in. If you’re accepted, we’ll email you an invitation. Invitation links expire 24 hours after they’re sent.
Beta spots are limited, so a little context helps us choose a useful mix of testers.
We’re not accepting new beta applications right now, but public release is coming soon. Join the release waitlist and we’ll let you know when SimpleAdd opens more broadly.

SimpleAdd is intentionally focused: it helps you get transactions into YNAB faster without becoming another bank account, budgeting system, or place to hand over financial passwords.
SimpleAdd is designed to minimize the sensitive information it handles. We never ask for or store your YNAB password or your banking login credentials. Your YNAB connection is authorized through YNAB’s secure OAuth process instead.
SimpleAdd uses encrypted HTTPS connections, keeps sensitive connection information on the server, and stores app data in managed cloud infrastructure protected by database access controls. We do not sell your personal data. You can read more in our Privacy Policy.
SimpleAdd stores the information needed to provide the service and make transaction entry faster. That includes your SimpleAdd account and preferences, the secure OAuth connection used to communicate with YNAB, learned payee/account/category associations, optional location-based suggestion data, saved payment-card last-four associations, feedback, and a limited set of recent transaction details.
To give Suggestions a useful starting point, SimpleAdd may analyze older YNAB transaction history when you first connect a plan. We do not keep a permanent server copy of your full historical transaction list for learning. Instead, that history is reduced to compact patterns and summaries that help SimpleAdd make better suggestions.
Recent transaction details may still be fetched or cached as needed for Recent Transactions, editing, deletion recovery, matching, and Suggestions. Transactions deleted through SimpleAdd are kept as recovery snapshots for 24 hours. We do not store your YNAB password or bank usernames and passwords, and we do not sell your personal information.
SimpleAdd uses your existing YNAB history to avoid starting from scratch. Recent patterns matter most, while older history can still help recognize things that happen less often—such as annual travel, subscriptions, or seasonal spending.
If multiple SimpleAdd users connect to the same YNAB account and plan, that YNAB-derived plan learning is shared for the plan rather than duplicated for each login. SimpleAdd can also keep limited user-specific learning so Suggestions can adapt to differences between people using the same plan.
Location history is different: YNAB does not provide historical GPS location for transactions, so location-based learning only comes from SimpleAdd when you allow location access while using the app.
Yes. SimpleAdd uses AI for voice transcription and receipt interpretation. Suggestions can also use AI-assisted merchant and category understanding when your own YNAB history does not provide a strong signal, or when you choose Smart Suggest. If a merchant is still unclear, SimpleAdd may use a limited public-web lookup to help understand the business and rank likely categories.
For AI-assisted suggestion matching, OpenAI may receive the merchant or payee name, transaction type, limited purchase, memo, receipt, or spoken context, and the names, groups, and identifiers of the available YNAB categories. SimpleAdd does not send your YNAB OAuth token, YNAB password, or banking login credentials for this purpose. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Yes. Separate SimpleAdd accounts can legitimately use the same YNAB account and plan—for example, two people in the same household. Each person signs in to SimpleAdd separately, while YNAB-derived learning can be shared at the plan level so the same plan does not have to relearn the same history for every login.
SimpleAdd can also keep limited user-specific learning so Suggestions can adapt to differences between people using the same plan.
No. Your bank connections remain between you, YNAB, and your financial institutions. SimpleAdd communicates with YNAB through its authorized API connection; it does not ask for or receive your bank username, password, or other online-banking credentials.
After you authorize the connection, SimpleAdd can read the YNAB information needed for its features—such as your plans, accounts, payees, categories, and transaction data. When you tell it to, SimpleAdd can also create, edit, and delete supported transactions.
When you delete a transaction through SimpleAdd, it saves a recovery copy for 24 hours under Settings → Recently Deleted Transactions. After that period expires, SimpleAdd cannot restore it. SimpleAdd also cannot recover a transaction deleted directly inside YNAB.
You can disconnect YNAB from SimpleAdd at any time in SimpleAdd Settings. You can also revoke the application's authorization from your YNAB Account Settings.
No. SimpleAdd is a transaction-entry companion for YNAB. It does not transfer funds, initiate payments, or move money between bank accounts. It helps record transaction information in YNAB.
No. SimpleAdd for YNAB is an independent application and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or supported by YNAB. YNAB and You Need A Budget are trademarks of YNAB.
During the limited beta, SimpleAdd is free for approved beta users. Final launch pricing has not been set yet, but the plan is a low-cost monthly subscription with a substantial discount for annual billing.
We plan to offer a limited free trial after beta so you can try SimpleAdd before deciding whether to subscribe. We’ll publish the exact trial terms closer to public launch.
SimpleAdd currently runs as a web app and is designed especially for phones. You can open it in a web browser and add it to your home screen for a more app-like experience. Native app releases in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store are planned for the future.
You stay in control. SimpleAdd is built to make likely choices faster, not to take budgeting decisions away from you. You can review and change suggested payees, accounts, categories, memos, and other transaction details, and your corrections can help future suggestions become more useful.
Approved beta users can use Send Beta Feedback inside SimpleAdd Settings to report a bug, suggest an idea, or ask a question. You can also email support@simpleadd.app.
The beta gives us a smaller group of real YNAB users to help refine reliability, transaction-entry workflows, suggestions, and support before a broader public launch. Approved testers get access at no charge during the beta in exchange for actively using the app and sharing useful feedback.
